Health and Hygiene Vocabulary List 2
1. Aspirin
A lot of us feel the need to take an aspirin during mild and chronic pains. It is a drug (tablet) that helps relieve one from pain, swelling, and even helps in bringing down one’s fever. Different compositions help to heal with various ailments.
2. Decongestant (Adjective & Noun)
We require a decongestant whenever we find difficulty in breathing or when our chest is congested with cough. They use a nasal route to clear the airway.
3. Anorexia (Noun)
Anorexia is a medical condition when one suffers from a loss of appetite for food. It could also be an emotional state where one intentionally refuses to intake the appropriate amount of food due to their obsession with weight loss.
4. Epidemic (Noun)
When one particular infectious diseases are widespread within one community, country, or countries put together, we call it an epidemic. When the toll of the number of people suffering from the disease increases, the WHO declares it an epidemic or could also a disaster depending on the intensity.
5. Hives (Noun)
Hives are generally an allergic reaction that usually occurs with rashes accompanied by swelling. While most of the times it happens due to food, sometimes, it could also be the result of bad hygiene.
6. Contagious (Adjective)
You might have often heard people ask, ‘Is this disease contagious?’ When a disease spreads from one person to another owing to physical contact, then it is contagious. Most people confuse this word with communicable diseases, which is incorrect. A communicable disease is one that usually transfers through water or air. Birds and insects can also be carriers.
7. Disinfectant (Noun)
A liquid that destroys bacteria is a disinfectant. It is widely used in hospitals and other such places that require complete hygiene and cleanliness.
8. Allergy (Noun)
We mentioned the word allergy quite some times in this health and hygiene vocabulary. What does it really mean? When one is hypersensitive to something, it could be pollution, dirt, some food item, etc. Allergic reactions are pretty common amongst people now based on their susceptibilities.
9. Louse (Noun)
A louse is a parasitic insect that lives on the skin of mammals and birds. Many kinds also live in plants. It is similar to lice, which we humans mostly find on their hair.
10. Suds (Noun and Verb)
Suds is a synonym for the word soap, but only of those that lather. washing our hands and keeping our body clean is one of the most important aspects of personal hygiene.
