The idea behind building a vocabulay as such is to have one word for various characters or personalities. We come across so many people every day, and find them all different from one another. It would be so nice to speak to them, or about them using the exact word that matches their description or hobby.
Thus, we came up with this unusual list, to build your vocabulary in this aspect of English language.
The Characteristic Vocabulary
1. Obscurant
The word is a noun, as well as an adjective which refers to someone or an act where one tries to hide details or is opposed to intellectual progress. It also means something that hinders visibility. “Smoke and other obscurants have been used in wars dating back to the ancient Greeks”
2. Valetudinarian
Not many might have heard of this word, but is a common characteristic. It refers to a person who is overly anxious about their health, or to one who has a low state of health. “Smita is a valetudinarian who never stops worrying about her health and takes a test every month.”
3. Altruist
Some people live for the welfare and interests of other people; they are altruists, who find pleasure in being a people’s person. “To donate his entire salary to the ailing woman was very altruisitic of Jarred.”
4. Dipsomaniac

Dipsomaniac is simply a synonym for the word ‘alcoholic’. Since the word alcoholic is very common, it is nice to know a new word to polish our vocabulary. “My husband was a dipsomaniac, but he is clean now.”
5. Teetotaller
Speaking of alcohol, those who abstain from even a drop of drink is a teetotaller. “All members in my family are teetotallers; neither of us have had a drop ever,”
6. Emissary
When you think about it, we are all emissaries in our own way. Any person sent out on a mission is an emissary. “I am on an emissary right now, and I cannot disclose any details about it until my organization gives me permission.”
7. Angler
Fishing is a hobby of many, but there are many ways people wish. One who uses a rod is an angler. Not many know of this, don’t you think? “All the anglers in the area met for their annual fishing contest.”
8. Novice
Anyone new to anything is a novice; for example, “Allison is a novice in this field; please confirm all her orders with me before passing them.”
9. Kleptomaniac
One who feels an urge or irresistable desire to steal is a kleptomaniac. “Therapy can help a kleptomaniac control their urge to shoplift.”
10. Recluse
A recluse is a person who renounces the world and their worldly duties to live a solitary life. The characteristic resembles or is similar to that of a hermit.
There, now we have a Characteristic Vocabulary of our own, which we can flaunt when we find someone apt matching these descriptions. Re-read all of them several times until you know them at the tip of your tongue, ready for use whenever needed.
